Four Core:
Advocacy
Assistance is provided at both the individual and community levels. Staff members work with our consumers to advocate for access to services. At the community level, consumers work together to bring about changes in the community that improve the lives of all persons with disabilities.
Information and Referral
Are provided to help individuals and their families to access community resources and programs such as: accessible housing, transportation, interpreters for the deaf or hearing impaired and many other services.
Independent Living Skills Training
Information to increase independence to daily living, including social and basic living skills is offered to individuals and groups; courses may include learning how to use various public transportation systems or managing a personal budget.
Peer Support
Persons with disabilities can work with other persons who have disabilities and who are living independently in the community. These peers will utilize personal experiences to support consumers facing problems and issues relating to their disability.
Other Services:
Community Services
Educational activities to promote understanding of independent living are provided to develop community awareness of the needs of people with disabilities. For example, information and assistance is available to the community regarding the removal of architectural barriers to the disabled.
Social Security and Benefits Planning Outreach
Services are provided to consumers who are disabled and need assistance: filing for initial benefits, any problems with existing claims, understanding how determinations were made; applying for an appeal if denied access to benefits, etc.
Housing Assistance
Tri-County ILC assist people with finding affordable accessible housing, by networking with various public housing agencies, apartment complexes and private landlords. Our staff maintains a directory of subsidized and non-subsidized housing as well as information on HUD and agencies that administer federal housing assistance. Tri-County also maintains a list of temporary emergency housing. People often need help with home modifications, Tri-CILC networks with community organizations to make accessible improvements to homes.
Nursing Home Transition
Tri-CILC works to transition people from nursing home facilities and relocate them into community based living with the necessary services and supports.
Transportation
Mobility is an essential part of living independently. Tri-CILC promotes awareness of transportation services by making sure our consumers are informed about available Para-Transportation Systems and Services. Tri-CILC provides guidance in utilizing the public transportation systems and works with county transit authorities to help consumers learn how to navigate fixed route bus systems.
Assistive Technology & Equipment
Staff helps consumers obtain equipment and devices needed for them to remain independent such as ramps, wheelchairs, walkers and other assistive technology devices.
Communication
Tri-CILC maintains a list of interpreter services and other services for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, non-verbal etc.
Library
Tri-CILC provides information on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), disability education, materials and literature.
