Our Services
Assistance is provided at both the individual and community levels. Staff members work with our consumers to advocate for access to services. At the community level, consumers work together to bring about changes in the community that improve the lives of all persons with disabilities. Community Services Educational activities to promote understanding of independent living are provided to develop community awareness of the needs of people with disabilities. For example, information and assistance is available to the community regarding the removal of architectural barriers to the disabled.
Information to increase independence to daily living, including social and basic living skills is offered to individuals and groups; courses may include learning how to use various public transportation systems or managing a personal budget.
Information and Referral
Are provided to help individuals and their families to access community resources and programs such as; accessible housing, transportation, interpreters for the deaf or hearing impaired and many other services. Peer Support Persons with disabilities can work with other persons who have disabilities and who are living independently in the community. These peers will utilize personal experiences to support consumers facing problems an issues relating to their disability. Social Security and Benefits Planning Outreach services are provided to consumers who are disabled and need assistance: filing for initial benefits, any problems with existing claims, understanding how determination were made; help in writing a PASS; applying for ERWIES if they are employed; applying for an appeal if denied access to benefits, i.e.
Consumer enjoy time socializing while learning nutrition and cooking skills as tasty meals are prepared.
Consumers enjoy a variety of recreation year round, such as; a yearly trip to the Sight and Sound Theater, annual picnic, annual holiday party, arts and crafts, luncheons, access to different community events and trips to places of interest.
Support Groups
Adult and our teen group “Teens Doin’ Things” which is still in the kick off stage, are available to help individuals share experiences and interest, and to challenge themselves. Our groups go on various field trips and also enjoy recreational opportunities
